I checked my point history and saw I had 2005 ecredits and asked to exchange to Mova Points - so I did but then it changed me from Gold to New Member - did I mess something up? Anyone have any idea?

The same thing happened to me. The forum level seems to be based on the number of points and if you redeem the points it brings you down to the equivalent level.
