After getting Alfina set up, the next step was letting her map out the main floor. This is always an interesting part of the process because it really determines how well the vacuum will perform long term.
I let her run a full mapping cycle, and it didn’t take long before a clear layout of the space started to come together in the app. What stood out to me was how intentional the movement felt. She wasn’t just wandering around randomly, but instead moving in a way that looked like it was actively learning the layout. I was also impressed that she was able to sense lighting conditions and navigate it the dark.
Once the map was created, there was actually very little for me to do. Alfina had already partitioned the rooms and honestly got most of the names right. She even was able to recognize certain obstacles like cables and objects where she can get stuck. I may consider adding some no-go zones by the stairs just in case. Everything updated quickly and behaved the way I expected when I sent her back out for a cleaning run.
She wasn't able to setup passable thresholds but I assume that will come during the first clean (I'm definitely excited to see the step-up feature in action). So far, this feels like a solid foundation. The whole process was no more than 10 minutes! If the mapping holds up over time, it should make scheduling and targeted cleaning a lot more effective going forward.
