Handles area rugs like a champ.

This thing handles our area rugs beautifully.  

We have 3 area rugs that it increases the suction on and does a nice job vacuuming, even goes so far as to slow down when on our area rugs.  I do find, it struggles with the fur in one pass, so I just go over the area rugs a second time and it gets the job done.   The ability to either have the side arm engage with the carpet to aid in helping with cleaning may be beneficial to some, but for my needs I am not sure I would keep that on.  Unless fur or hair is literally ground into the carpet, I would likely just leave mine off for ours and just have it go over a second or third time.  Again though, just one of those additional “MOVA”  nice to have features for different people and use case scenarios.
