Wanted to share some real world experience with the V50 and rugs since I haven’t seen much about this.
1) The good
The V50 can actually climb onto thicker rugs, which my P50 couldn’t do. The P50 would just bump into them and reroute. The V50 powers up and over. For anyone with thick pile rugs that their old robot vacuum just avoided, this is a genuine upgrade.
The adjustable LiDAR head is also worth mentioning. It pops up to navigate and retracts to get under low furniture like my couch. Spots that were dead zones before are now getting cleaned regularly.
2) The quirks
The same ability that lets it climb thick rugs also means it’ll climb onto rugs it probably shouldn’t. My sheepskin rug and one other rug don’t need regular vacuuming, but the V50 doesn’t know that. It climbs on, gets stuck, and I have to designate those areas as no-go zones in the app. With the P50 this wasn’t an issue because it just couldn’t get up onto them in the first place. So the upgrade created a new problem to solve.
The retractable LiDAR head has a similar catch. When the V50 climbs onto a rug near my bench, the top of the head hits the bench bar. It backs off, tries again, backs off, tries again. It does eventually free itself but it drags out the cleaning cycle noticeably.
3) Overall
Not deal breakers, just things worth knowing before you set it up. Spend some time in the app mapping out your no-go zones early and you’ll save yourself some headaches. The rug climbing ability is genuinely useful, it just needs a bit of guidance on where to use it.
Curious what weird situations other people’s vacuums have gotten themselves into. Drop them below.
